Well, well, oh have the seasons changed! As the cold months of winter have faded away, in comes the blossoms of Spring that surprises us all! Some get new cars, some get houses, but all I seem to get are breakouts, weight gain, and more breakouts. Ugh! I can't seem to get away from the "seasonal acne" as I would call it, but over the years I have learned how to manage it. Here are a few changes that you should be looking forward too, and some great tips on how to tackle them!
As the temperature rises and plummets throughout the year, the humidity levels in the air fluctuates as well. Which makes perfect sense why the weather plays a key role in your skin health. The temperature and humidity levels may affect the skin's moisture, hydration, and skin cell production turnaround rate (the speed in which your skin reproduces its skin cells). During the long cold months of winter, the skin may experience much lower levels of humidity which causes the skin to become dry and dull. If this is something that you may have experienced, you first want to establish exactly HOW dry your skin really is? Do you experience mild dryness, average, or extreme dryness; which is usually followed up by inflamed cracking of the skin. Which is why moisturizers are really important during the colder months of the year to prevent the skin from becoming too dry. And remember, in the most extreme cases, lack of skin hydration can cause permanent damage to the skin's barrier, thus changing the skin's appearance.
TreasureU Skincare has several oil-based moisturizers that are awesome throughout the entire year, Beauty Elixir is my favorite because it balances facial oils, minimizes pores, and moisturizes the skin all at the same time! And for my cream based moisturizer lovers, Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer is a nice option for oily or acne prone skin, that will not leave the skin with excess oils.
Now transitioning into the summer season can be a little more complex, as for some people it may require several different changes in their skincare routine. As we already know the summer months can bring dreadful heat, skyrocket high temperatures, which means higher humidity levels. And what does that mean for you skin? Excess oil and clogged pores! A good cleanser and toner will save your life, at least your skin's life anyway, lol! A cleanser to help remove dirt, oil, and debris from the skin and a toner to balance skin hydration. The perfect duo! Now I could go on forever about which cleanser is better and which cleansers are not so great, but a cleanser should be chosen based on your skin type and needs.
Getting prepared for the transition requires planning and preparation if you want to prevent a breakout, so here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Make note of when the seasons change, three weeks before going into the new season gradually introduce the new skincare products to your skin. This will help the transition go a lot more smoothly to prevent the skin from purging or having breakouts.
2. Consider altering your "current" skincare products usage and/or dosage instead of getting new skincare products altogether. To get the same coverage for your skin year round this option may be a cheap and quick fix, just by using more of the products that you already have.
3. Keep a consistent year round skincare product stash that consists of "the old and faithful." These are your skincare products that you should use ritually no matter the season. This should include: a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
This year go into the seasons with confidence!
